Midir was once a kingdom under the Releucid Dynasty, until the Elder Eye appeared in possession of King Rechloch. On the eve of the declaration of war from Rubreks, the Three Sainted Knights turned on their liege and slew him, presenting the Eye to the envoy from Rubreks the following morning and ending the Third War before it could truly begin. Their actions are said to have saved innumerable lives, but the kingdom was broken, and the capital Kether abandoned to the malevolent spirit of the betrayed king.
The blurring of history and myth is characteristic of Midir, where the written word is mistrusted. Most of the chieftains with whom I have spoken have had some variant of the story to tell, to explain the pastoral existence of their peoples. I have also seen for myself the Great Evil-Eating Tree at whose base is enshrined the Green Knight, keeping at bay to this day the horrors said to have festered in the ancient, abandoned capital. I have likewise observed a steadfast resistance to the notion of force as a political tool among the people of Midir. Despite the violent treachery which seems to mark the turning point in their mythic history, they balk at the idea of taking up arms in anything but strict self-defense. Their neutrality in the Seventh War of the Eye is then a foregone conclusion, seeing as no aggressive effort was directed at their lands before the end.
